Privacy Policy

Last updated October 14, 2026

Backlot is built so that your footage never has to leave your phone except for the seconds it takes to render. We collect no personal data: no account, no name, no email, no analytics tied to you.

Your videos

Clips you import stay on your device. When you start a render, the clip is uploaded once over HTTPS to transient cloud storage so the render service can process it. The staged copy is deleted automatically when the render job completes or fails. We do not keep copies of your videos, and we do not use your footage to train models.

Device permissions

Backlot asks for access to your photo library (to import clips), your camera and microphone (to film clips), and permission to save finished videos. These are used only for the features you trigger. Denying a permission disables only the feature that needs it.

Purchases

Subscriptions and credit packs are sold through Apple In-App Purchase. Apple processes the payment and we never see your card details. We store only an anonymous install token plus your credit balance and subscription tier so the app can enforce plan limits.

Diagnostics

The app sends anonymous crash reports that contain no video, no personal identifiers, and no content of your projects. These reports are used only to fix bugs.

Children

Backlot is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new date. Continued use of the app after a change means you accept the updated policy.
